Johnny Bryant (or Daisuke Umon as in the original) is not only the hero of the story. It 'so much more: It' a figure on the edge - as like a Go Nagai - lonely, to the point that it scostante. However, some capacity greater than those of any human being, his reflexes and his athletic skills are considerable, but he did not show it. In a way we could think of a superhero, as evidenced also his "habit" before starting the battle (habit that takes place almost magical, without a real change of habit). And this, again, makes the audience.

But there is something more: Johnny Bryant is a "savior". Fights to defend the Earth, is not asking anything in return, his blood, we are told, is compatible with that of every human being and makes it a potential donor absolute. His altruism is almost a "cell" is a creature born to dispense aid. The story does not crush his hand on possible religious iconography, but there is no doubt that in his figure is a condensed spiritual: un po 'angel descended from heaven, a po' expulsion from his divinity Olimpo (on the planet Hometown Fleed all wear a tunic that leads to antiquity land, to Greece or, if we are to maintain a go-nagai's reference, at Mycenae). Years later, in "MazinSaga" Go Nagai donating two wings of the angel, to definitively establish the iconography "heavenly". An angel dispenser of life, but as creatures Bible also an angel who need to know punish the wicked join his robot. If Mazinger is a God or a devil, Grandizer is an angel or a demon.
Logical thinking of him as an unattainable model, a friend but not capable of great generosity and that this can be as near as far. And perhaps he is in the secret of longevity of the series between the lovers.
